Sadie has been a key member of the Center for Civic Engagement's Advisory Council. She's genuinely curious about the world and has a refreshing, can-do attitude. As a favor, Sadie recently volunteered to mentor PhD students in a graduate writing workshop geared toward public audiences. She was an exceptionally well-prepared, well-informed and generous workshop leader. I wouldn't have expected more from a paid contractor. My sense is that Sadie gives her all to everything she does.

Sadie has done a fantastic job leading the development and launch of a new on-line Science Communication course at Northwestern University. She assisted in the selection and recruitment of experts in the field, set timelines that were achieved, and provided excellent leadership and organization to the team. Sadie is smart, hard working, dependable and easily connects with others - she is a true pleasure to work with and an expert herself in the field of science communication.

I manage development of a National Science Foundation-funded online program to train STEM students in science communication skills. To date, I have coordinated a team of experts, external evaluators, beta-testers, and staff to ensure course meets teaching goals. I have conducted a beta-test of the course, reviewed the learning outcomes, and organized changes to the course according to feedback.

My specific research interests lie in how our memories change during the sleep process. I’m investigating why some memories lose specificity and become more generalized schemas while other memories maintain high fidelity representations. In other words, sometimes it’s useful to just remember general patterns while other times it’s better to recall every detail of an event.

I'm the creator and host of the podcast PhDrinking in which I sit down to have a drink and interview other grad students across various fields about their research. We try to keep the jargon at a level suitable for a lay audience, but expect occasional cursing. https://soundcloud.com/phdrinking I'm the creator and host of the podcast PhDrinking in which I sit down to have a drink and interview other grad students across various fields about their research. I was one of 24 fellows selected for prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science mass media fellowship (from over 1000 applications). At VoA, I pitched and wrote over 25 science journalism pieces for an international audience. I also recorded and edited both radio and video clips using Dalet and Adobe Premiere respectively. I studied how chronic sleep restriction (ie, getting less than 7 hours of sleep each night) affects attention. We used EEG measures to see how brain responses to a reaction time task change with sleep restriction.
