My current research is an interdisciplinary project investigating energy metabolism in patients with cancer. This encompasses several aspects including 1) assessment of resting and total energy expenditure in patients primarily earlier stage (II-III) colorectal cancer 2) validation of methods to assess energy expenditure including a portable indirect calorimeter and predictive equations 3) evaluation of the determinants of resting energy expenditure change in patients with advanced colorectal cancer. Key responsibilities:-Apply for and maintain provincial and national ethical approval-Co-ordinate study recruitment and schedule participants-Perform anthropometric, body composition (bioelectrical impedance analysis, dual X-ray absorptiometry, computerized tomography), and energy expenditure (metabolic cart, doubly labeled water) assessments-Collate and analyse data relating to energy expenditure, body composition, physical activity, dietary intake, physical function, clinical variables (i.e. cancer treatment, stage, inflammation, etc.), and quality of life-Lead research papers arising from current project and other related endeavors-Supervise undergraduate research projects
