Systems-psychodynamic Organisation Consultant
-
Jul 2008 - Present
Systems-psychodynamic consulting to individuals, groups or whole organisations. I was trained by the internationally recognised centre of excellence for psychological practice The Tavistock, London. Some of the leading thinkers and theories in group dynamics, leadership and organisational consultancy originated in the Tavistock. Essentially we create the space to think about what is going on in clients organisation, team, role or all three. Then it’s about determining the way forward to perform in the way that works for them. This systems thinking/ psychodynamic approach creates the framework that enables me to help organisations in ways that work for their unique set up, rather than prescriptive one off solutions or goals that may be short lived. The organisation and wider system is always in mind and I can work with that whole organisation, groups or individuals. Incorporating three overlapping frameworks of thinking: systems thinking, the study of group behaviour and psychoanalytic theory into an aligned approach, where each aspect connects and inter-relates, whether we are working with an individual, a team or a whole organisation. It is a powerful combination that gives clients a depth of understanding that gets to the heart of a situation and generates sustained learning and improvement. Typical work involves consulting to people in challenging roles in public and private sector leads. All sessions are completely confidential and as a psychoanalytic practitioner I undertake regular supervision. What is systems thinking? It is an approach to analysis that focuses on the way a system's constituent parts interrelate and how systems work over time and within the context of larger systems. The part is always looked at as part of a wider system. Role consultancy/executive coaching and group work is offered directly and virtually via booking platform. Founder

Jul 2007 - Present
I founded VeinTrain in 2007 to build a trusted global brand. A first and only choice for these, the most commonly performed skills in healthcare which were consistently being performed poorly. As a published author and national standardisation of competency lead, I knew we needed a different approach; standardised, high value, accessible and above all, quality. At the end of 2018 we won a showcase at WISH, Qatar for our innovation. At VeinTrain we know clinicians want to provide the best care for their patients and we are proud to be part of making this happen with our proven multi-platform solutions. Utilising decades of experience, evidence- based practice and analysis of what works best for learners and so their patient's. VeinTrain has a global community of followers and leaders. Talented at what they do - their enthusiasm is contagious. Offering individual access and contracts :- Whole systems: Guy's And St Thomas', Nottinghamshire Healthcare, Central London Healthcare. Visiting Lecturer: Consulting and Leading in organisations- systems psychoanalytic approach (MA)
-
Sep 2021 - Present
A visiting tutor for the Masters Programme. A mentor for students on the programme. This course combines experiential learning with the study of psychoanalytic and systemic theory in relation to organisations, bringing into view the complex emotional lives of contemporary organisations. Theory seminars and webinars introduce key concepts such as the individual unconscious, the group unconscious and the institutional unconscious. Contemporary papers and case studies bring theory to life, exploring issues such as authority and power, organisational change and the politics of difference. Race, intersectionality and difference are approached using a theoretical, individual and organisational lens, in order to explore how they impact organisational dynamics, and the capacity of leaders, managers and consultants to take up their roles. A range of conceptual tools develop the capacity to think critically and systemically about organisations. Learning to map organisational systems and understand the effects of organisational structure on organisational dynamics and vice versa. Thinking creatively ‘across the boundary’ between the conscious and unconscious aspects of organisational life, including those of the organisational system in which the course takes place.

PBL Facilitator
-
Jan 2022 - Dec 2022
PBL Facilitator -School of Medicine. Facilitating problem based learning - initially remotely then in person. Groups of 12 medical students for a series of sessions over 9 modules. 1st and 2nd years requiring facilitation using different approaches. Incredible students soon to be superb doctors and scientists. To facilitate well in PBL, holding onto the unknown was crucial for this work to be effective. This was exciting, challenging but very rewarding. A very healthy team where psychological safety was a given as curiosity was key to our work. Left to take up a new role back in NHS leadership. The Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) programme allows people from a wide diversity of backgrounds to become Foundation Year doctors within 4-years. Internationally-acclaimed research with high-quality teaching to nurture the next generation of doctors and scientists. One of a team of facilitators from various professional backgrounds for a course designed specifically for graduates from different professional backgrounds and degrees. Years of clinical experience, teaching and multi-professional work led me to take on this part time role. I throughly enjoy using group facilitation skills and being part of a team. Together we support students achieve understanding and assimilation of their learning, which leads them towards a successful career in medicine.

Having travelled extensively for work and pleasure I am looking forward to this new natural step in the business growth in my career. Clinical Travel Working in St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney offered a fantastic opportunity to work as a professional in a different country. The approach to nursing was high quality and autonomous working requesting medical consultations as required. This was different to the UK approach of a more medical led service. I enjoy working with other cultures. I have enjoyed long trips to Zambia, running VeinTrain UK from overseas and exploring opportunities for working in the future.

Lead Nurse - Multi-Professional Practice Education
-
Jan 1999 - Apr 2007
Working in the Corporate Nursing Team reporting to the Director of Nursing from 2000 Joining initially as a staff nurse, up to A&E Junior Sister then on to the Corporate Nursing Team The strategic role in Corporate Nursing was a fantastic opportunity to work with all parts of the organisation. Presenting outcomes to the board, and working for the Director of Nursing. This role provided fantastic opportunities to develop staff and students from all professional groups. I worked on many projects including the simulation centre which I helped develop to the opening in 2003. The core objective - the Primary task being to continually improve patient care and experience through strategic leading of the education agenda and policy making. Additionally I held responsibilities to support the Director of Nursing, Corporate Roles during the absence of an Assistant Director of Nursing. This provided valuable exposure to organisations at Board level. I worked for the Director of Clinical Studies, to set up the skills lab and programme and provide training for 240 Imperial College Medical Students per year. Supporting their learning and assessing and supporting the management of the 3rd year OSCEs. It was a privilege to be at the forefront of introducing simulation training into healthcare, learning from the aviation industry. The Good Clinical Practice Centre project set up and subsequent phased implementation in 2002/3 for both high and low fidelity simulation offering a full curriculum of simulation based training in truly outstanding facilities.
