      The Cougar Mountain Zoo Internship Program is designed to introduce college students or their graduates seeking theoretical as well as hands on experience in the many facets of the zoo world. Participants are exposed to a broad range of fields inherent in zoo operations such as education, conservation, fundraising, public relations, animal husbandry, medical, and many others. Program includes 320+ hours of volunteer work as an intern (in progress, currently around 280 hours completed). Tasks performed: -Preparing diets and supplements for a variety of species including grey wolves, bengal tigers, ruffed lemurs, ring-tailed lemurs, and three species of hoofstock. -Scooping alpaca, emu, mule deer, macaw, reindeer, and wallaby exhibits. -Provided daily care and feeding of reptiles on an established schedule of supplements and nutrition guidelines for blue-tongued skink, black and white tegu, and box turtle. -Shifting carnivores working closely with mammal curator and keepers. -Cleaning duties in mammals and birds including emptying and preparing eggs for sale in gift shop, washing dishes and filling waters, and scrubbing/sweeping barns and enclosures when necessary. -Merchandise labeling and stocking in zoo gift shop.
