I have developed my clinical knowledge and skills working at junior and senior level in the following medical areas: Respiratory and cardiac rehabilitation Musculoskeletal outpatients Trauma and orthopaedics Rheumatology Neurology Community rehabilitation General medical and surgical Working in London, I developed my skills in the assessment of patients with different language needs, working in busy clinics with patient advocates to ensure best care. During this time I grew a real appreciation for the importance of recognising how culture and different belief systems may necessitate a different treatment approach, whilst ensuring still that best outcomes could be achieved. I worked in 2 large NHS hospitals in South Wales in more senior physiotherapist roles. I have worked in busy orthopaedic clinics alongside consultants and closely with rheumatology assessing the impact of rehabilitation on patients with conditions such as fibromyalgia and ankylosing spondylitis. I developed a confident approach to musculoskeletal condition management, acute and chronic during this time and despite my later move to case management, I have worked to retain my knowledge and understanding of best practice guidelines for all of the medical areas noted. In New Zealand, I worked in musculoskeletal clinics specialising in sports injury rehabilitation for adults and adolescents. I had the pleasure of working closely with the local rugby team and also provided rehabilitation for patients who were often affected by industry specific conditions such as those involved in heavy farming and fishing work.
