Edward Dalder
Sarah taught herself the rudiments of optical microscopy and SEM operation. She then applied these newly-acquired skills to the study of fracture-surfaces of stainless steel welds. She completed the work and prepared a poster report. This was accomplished in the course of a summer internship at the Florida State university. The quality of the work was reviewed, found to be of superior quality, and included in the work being performed for the international ITER project.

Assembly Integration
-
Dec 2018 - Nov 2022
Assembly integrator handling cross-platform technology development and high volume manufacturing of server packages as well as pathfinding “first in the industry” technology. Responsible for all new product introduction activities including material ordering and procurement, manufacturing route creation, scheduling, and cross-organization communication. Responsible for ensuring products are following Intel methodology for development. High focus on technical problem solving, throughput time improvements, and yield improvement activities. Led multiple technical work groups and task forces to drive defect reduction and fundamental building block learning. Led a special project team to test and build a first of a kind proof of concept thermal design. The project scope involved packaging design, modeling, material procurement, assembly route creation and coordination with module teams, and proof of concept build and test. Show less

Senior Materials Engineer
-
Jun 2016 - Nov 2018
Primary point of contact for all materials development from conception to high volume manufacturing ramp. Responsible for ensuring all assembly materials and suppliers used are certified to meet all technology, quality, cost, and schedule requirements and all materials integration related problems are resolved prior to material and product certification. Led a task force across multiple factory sites to resolve an integrated technical and supply chain issue impacting delivery of several critical products. Directed a cross-disciplinary team of engineers and managers to test various material supply for risk mitigation of a catastrophic failure mode. This focus on quality required balancing the production needs of the company and avoiding many lines-down situations. Designed and executed lab experiments to re-create a solder shorting phenomena seen during production in tight pitch packages. Determined root cause of the failure with understanding of the mechanism to prevent future occurrences. Based on this work, I was the lead author of an internal Intel publication and drove a new material and process solution to prevent future failures. Show less

Designed experiments to study flux interaction with first level interconnect materials including metrologies for flux fingerprinting and characterization. Identified the key modulators of surface energy as epoxy preface and flux chemistry. Established the structure-property relation of flux utilized in BoT packages. Identified the key modulators of sit time which will enable development of flux formulations with long sit times. Studied surface modification using Self-Assembled-Monolayers by identifying optimum SAM, solvent, and coating conditions for the SAM and the effect of surface energy on selective etching. Characterized the solder pastes for SMT applications using a wide range of metrologies resulting in identification of a new paste material candidate. Show less

Worked with a professional mentor to design and execute my own experiments to investigate issues with 316LMN weld joints for parts of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). Performed metallography and fractography using an SEM and optical microscopy to determine fatigue issues with S-n and CT specimens. Required to give a poster presentation on results of research. Possibility of publication on results.
