    • Research Director for Representative Ken Gordon, House Chair
      • Feb 2021 - Dec 2021

I was promoted to Research Director when Representative Gordon was appointed House Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Service. My central responsibilities in this role are to manage Chair Gordon's personal legislation, prepare testimony, and write office communications related to bills filed by Chair Gordon or those taken up in the House. When the House was amending the State Budget, I was in charge of drafting, filing, and tracking Chair Gordon's amendments.I also took on a managerial role in this position. I assist the Staff Director in overseeing the Legislative Aide and assist and advise on constituent cases. In the summer of 2021, I served as a mentor to the interns that joined us virtually. When the new legislative session began in 2021, Chair Gordon gave me the opportunity to propose legislation. I am passionate about the intersections between environmental health, sustainable agriculture, and environmental justice, and proposed that he file a bill banning the use of chlorpyrifos in agriculture in Massachusetts and create a commission to study its use non-agriculturally. I wrote it and Chair Gordon filed it. The language of the bill, H.936, An Act relative to the use of chlorpyrifos in the Commonwealth can be found here:https://malegislature.gov/Bills/192/H936 Show less

    • Legislative Aide to State Representative Ken Gordon
      • Nov 2019 - Feb 2021

As Legislative Aide to Rep. Ken Gordon, I served as a liaison between the Representative and his constituents, collaborated with federal, local, and other state government offices, wrote and edited office communications, managed constituent cases, drafted and filed legislation, and prepared the Representative for debates and votes. Rep. Gordon's office prioritized office communications during the COVID-19 pandemic in an effort to quickly relay information about the rapidly developing situation to his constituents. The office primarily communicated with constituents via social media and press releases that were sent to local media outlets, and during the height of the pandemic, we were issuing press updates at least once every other day. As Legislative Aide, I either wrote or edited almost all of these communications.I also managed the majority of the office's constituent cases. During the first year of the pandemic, many constituents contacted us for help with their unemployment claims. It was my responsibility to reach out to these constituents, diffuse their frustration, and collaborate with the Department of Unemployment Assistance to facilitate a resolution. In addition to unemployment cases, I also frequently worked health insurance- and housing-related cases. In the health insurance cases, I served as a liaison between constituents, MassHealth, and/or the Health Connector to help them receive them coverage to which they were entitled. For housing cases, I connected constituents with state housing assistance programs (such as RAFT), heating assistance, and other economic assistance programs through the Department of Transitional Assistance. • Legislative Aide to State Representative Paul Brodeur, House Chair
      • Sep 2019 - Nov 2019

As Legislative Aide to Chair Brodeur (House Chair of the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development), I was given the same responsibilities as I was in Rep. Gordon's office. I only worked for Chair Brodeur for two and a half months because he was elected Mayor of Melrose in November 2019 and was required to resign immediately after the election. At this time, Rep. Gordon was looking to fill the Legislative Aide position in his office and I applied with Chair Brodeur's recommendation. Show less

    • Sustainability Coordinator
      • Sep 2017 - Jun 2018

Ministrare Council is the student council within Wellesley College Civic Engagement that facilitates partnerships between community organizations and student volunteers. The council is responsible for planning week-long Alternative Break trips and one-day volunteer events. As Ministrare Council's Sustainability Coordinator, I consulted with all five component teams to make programs, events, and trips as environmentally sustainable as possible. My primary project was to develop a "tool-kit" of campus resources and practical information that the Alternative Breaks team could use to plan a low-waste and energy conscious trip. While completing that project, I also met with students who had received Civic Engagement grant money, and helped them make environmentally sustainable and socially responsible consumer choices with their purchasing power. • Eco-Representatives Coordinator
      • Jan 2017 - Jun 2018

The Eco-Representatives (Eco-Reps) is a group of students elected by their respective House Councils that help students develop sustainable living habits. As the program's coordinator, I was in charge of running meetings, helping Eco-Reps meet project deadlines, and turning student ideas into projects. The Eco-Rep program expanded rapidly while I was the Coordinator, which challenged me to invent new methods of structural organization and data management. From the beginning to end of my tenure, the number of Eco-Reps in the program increased from seven to 24, and the number of Sustainable Living Certifications completed per year grew from 47 in 2016-2017 to 95 in 2017-2018. In order to meet the changing needs of program, I established protocols for data entry that carefully tracked the flow of program materials, and I began creating detailed instruction sheets for every project. My goal during my final semester as Eco-Rep Coordinator was to ensure that the increased program size and productivity could be sustained after my graduation. I helped secure program continuity by creating a manual for future Eco-Rep Coordinators, which describes effective leadership practices, suggests solutions to challenges that future coordinators might face, and identifies areas for growth within the program. • Special Projects Intern
      • Jan 2016 - Dec 2016

As the title suggests, the Special Projects Intern is responsible for tackling the Office of Sustainability's miscellaneous initiatives. My main function as the Special Projects intern was to manage the Sustainable Workspace Certification program. The program's objective was to help college staff and faculty implement sustainable workspace practices into their daily work life. I met with staff and faculty in their workspaces, identified areas of improvement, and delivered materials (LED lightbulbs, recycling bins, etc.) to help them reduce their waste and carbon footprint. • Eco-Representative
      • Sep 2014 - Dec 2016

Eco-Representatives (Eco-Reps) are students elected by the House Councils of their residence halls, and who serve as liaisons between Residential Life and the Office of Sustainability. Although they take on campus-wide initiatives, their primary function is to improve the sustainable living practices of peers living in their respective dorms. As an Eco-Rep, I performed Sustainable Living Certification (SLC) audits for the residents in my dorm. An SLC audit entailed a 15-30 minute meeting, during which the resident and I would discuss each point on a checklist of sustainable practices. The resident received points for what they were already doing well, and we would identify habits in need of improvement. At the beginning of my third year as Eco-Rep, I was promoted to the Senior position, and worked closely with the Eco-Rep Coordinator to ensure that projects ran smoothly. After one semester as Senior Eco-Rep, I was promoted to the Coordinator position. Show less

    • Legislative Affairs Intern
      • Jun 2017 - Aug 2017

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is an non-profit that advocates for scientifically and economically sound solutions to global environmental challenges. During the summer of 2017, I spent 10 weeks as the Legislative Affairs Intern in the EDF's Political Affairs office. I collaborated with Moms Clean Air Force to research the threat of Zika virus and risks associated with the chemicals used to control mosquito populations. I submitted memos about my findings that staff at the EDF could use to create fact sheets and blog posts on the subject. I also worked with the Field Operations team to draft newsletters and build connections between the EDF and contacts at major newspapers. Interning at the EDF allowed me to participate in a number of events and professional development opportunities outside of the office. I attended the the House and Senate Appropriations Committee hearings for the EPA budget, the 2017 Play-In for Climate Action, and a BlueGreen Alliance panel on toxics in consumer products. I also participated in the National Climate Leadership Summit, where I met with other students and young professionals from around the country and learned about building effective communication and advocacy skills. The three-day summit culminated with a meeting I scheduled with my US Congressman to discuss environmental concerns specific to my home community. My housing and stipend were provided by the Wellelsey in Washington program after a rigorous application process in the Fall of 2016: https://www.wellesley.edu/politicalscience/washington Show less

    • Research Assistant
      • Jun 2015 - Aug 2015

I collaborated with two other students and my Environmental Studies professor, James Turner, to research and write content for a website about lead-acid, lithium-ion, and alkaline batteries. The research covered the history, life-cycle, and sustainability issues associated with each type of battery, as well as the environmental justice concerns related to the mining of materials and disposal at end of life. Although I edited content for the lead-acid and lithium-ion case studies, I lead research and content development for the alkaline section. http://batteriesandsustainability.org Funded by the National Science Foundation.
