Reston, VA I teach biology and chemistry (6th grade through AP) at Ideaventions Academy, an innovative 4th-12th grade private school for STEM-inclined gifted students in Reston, VA (near Washington, DC). We focus on project-based, hands-on instruction at a high level of rigor (our middle school students are essentially taking high school level coursework). During the summer, I have also taught at our hands-on STEM camps for elementary and middle school students. I have designed and implemented week long research academies for middle school students on topics ranging such as learning and memory, electrophysiology, genetic engineering, and human anatomy/physiology. Houston, Texas Area I studied hippocampal network deficits in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. To do this, I used in-vivo electrophysiology (tetrode recording) to examine the firing of place cells during spatial navigation tasks and while the animal sleeps.

    • Organizer/Group Leader, Neuroscience Boot Camp
      • Aug 2014 - Aug 2014

Houston, Texas Area Helped organize and run a grad student-led boot camp for the incoming class of neuroscience graduate students, and taught the morning session on basic physics. This effort was successful enough that the boot camp will now be offered annually.

Houston, Texas Area I was in charge of a lab group for four hands-on neuroscience experiences, graded student's work, helped run a review session for each exam, and designed/taught one 50-minute lecture about the cerebellum, for which I also wrote the exam questions.

      • Jul 2009 - Jul 2010

Houston, Texas Area I collected electrophysiological data on how SAI nerve fibers respond to varying force. To do this, I dissected the skin from a rodent's hind paw while preserving the connecting nerve, called a skin-nerve preparation, and recorded the electrical signals within the nerve bundle as I touched the skin.
