While working in the office of Undergraduate Research and Creativity (URC) I was able to be a part of this high impact practice. Engaging with students while they prepared to write research and creativity grant proposals was rewarding, and I had the privilege to see all of the amazing talents possessed by some of the students of UW La Crosse. My work in URC also included "The Data Project", where we researched and input data sets which will allow URC to assess the benefits of the program for UW La Crosse students, as well as find holes in their services and correct them accordingly. • Office Multicultural Student Services, Financial Aid Counselor, Intern
      • Sep 2016 - Dec 2016

My time at the Office of Multicultural Student Services was packed full of things to learn. I worked with students on issues of federal financial aid, and the Lawton grant. I provided support to students who did not meet satisfactory academic progress, and helped them with the appeals process. I provided academic counseling for students who were entering their senior years, to be sure everything on their check lists was complete and all needed classes were being chosen. I also worked with my team, and members from other departments on campus, to hold workshops for FAFSA filing. This was such a great experience, I learned a lot and I value the time I was able to spend with some really great students. Show less

This was such an amazing opportunity, where I worked with a team in career services to serve the community in a positive way. My main tasks were to work with walk in students who needed help with their resumes and cover letters. Some would come in with these documents complete and simply need a proofreader, while others would come in and need help from the beginning. I also worked with students to help them find a career cluster that matched their interests and goals. My favorite part of this internship was getting to know the students as they came in for assistance. I only wish I would be able to follow-up with them and see if they got the jobs they were applying for, or if they continued their educations! Show less

I had the wonderful opportunity to work as part of the student services team at the University of Wisconsin Colleges, in Fond du Lac. I spent the summer with them and I was able to be a part of the financial aid student appeals process; where students who had lost financial aid could write an appeal in order to be reinstated. These meetings helped me gain a working knowledge of financial aid and the standards students needed to maintain in order to continue receiving aid. I was also able to administer and supervise placement tests for incoming students. My favorite part of the summer was new student registration and advising, where I lead a parent session. It was fun for me to work with parents of new students. I briefly discussed what is what it was like for me to be a student at UW Fond du Lac, and answered questions parents had for me. We also enjoyed a tour of campus and I pointed out some of my favorite spots to study and socialize. This was such an amazing experience and I will always be thankful to the team at UW Fond du Lac for helping me to explore the many hats worn by student services at this wonderful campus. Show less
