    • Nursery Assistant
      • Jul 2018 - Nov 2018

I held the position of nursery assistant. My responsibilities included receiving the children from 7:30am onwards, serving their three main meals and snacks, and organising/supervising a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. When outside, I ensured that children were wearing weather appropriate clothing and sunscreen if needed. We were encouraged by our management team to frequently introduce the children to new activities to further their social and academic development. In my role, I was expected to remind the children to follow the nursery rules of kindness, respect and patience towards their fellow peers and adult staff. This was achieved through a variety of mediums, including songs, stories and verbal reminders. All rules were reinforced by staff in a gentle and understanding way. Upon collection, parents were given a detailed hand over by staff about how their child had behaved, how they had interacted with others, and what they had learned that day. A strong relationship with parents was encouraged so that they and staff could work together to aid the progress of individual children. Show less

My role was very varied, and included visiting multiple schools for assemblies, Prayer Spaces, after school clubs, class visits, and transition programmes for year 6 students. Another part of my role involved visiting local churches and networking with other children’s workers. As a charity, we relied on donations, so I made regular church presentations to contributing churches. I was also involved in an annual holiday activity week called Lighthouse Burnham, being part of the 10-11 years leadership team. Show less

      • Jun 2015 - Oct 2015

I was assigned to this school through REED Education Teaching Agency. I worked as a teaching assistant in a number of classes. The students had many complex needs, including autism, physical disabilities, and behavioural difficulties due to complex speech, language and communication needs. I was responsible for assisting the class teacher in all lessons and playground sessions. The role required good memory and quick learning skills as I would often be given new student briefs each morning, each with their own medical specifications and learning objectives. I used many MAKATON signs to help the children to communicate with the staff and each other. Show less
