      In 2000, I was diagnosed with Philadelphia Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). With a 30% survival rate, I underwent treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Inspired by my experience battling Philadelphia Positive ALL, I wrote and published "Oops! Did I Say That?", a positive how-to-guide for those outside of the pediatric cancer experience. I traveled throughout the country presenting my personal experiences as a cancer survivor, community leader, and service advocate.

      I worked primarily on college campuses (University of Illinois, Illinois State University, Bradley University, Western Illinois University) to recruit potential blood drive coordinators. Training coordinators on how to run a successful blood drive and reach their blood collection goals, in order to ensure blood products were available to the patients we served.I organized more than 140 blood drives and trained more than 150 community sponsors on the importance of blood donation, donor eligibility information, and strategies for implementation of a blood drive to increase overall university blood collection by more than 25%. I also developed process, interview guidelines, and training manuals to implement a pilot internship program which is still in existence today.
