Ms. Hewitt is responsible for overseeing operations on each IPAA/PESA petroleum academy campus. The Independent Petroleum Association of America and the Petroleum Equipment & Services Association continue to expand upon their commitment to education outreach through their Houston-based Energy Education Center. Since 2006, the Energy Education Center has established five high school engineering, geoscience and leadership academies within the Houston Independent School District and the Fort Worth Independent School District. The mission of the petroleum academies is to provide students with a multidisciplinary, advanced academic learning experience in science, mathematics and the emerging technology concepts needed to pursue professional training and degrees in engineering, geology, geophysics and global energy management in the oil and natural gas industry.IPAA and PESA are achieving an unprecedented level of success by reigniting student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).The program introduces students to the importance of working in teams, providing them with a better understanding of business dynamics, cooperation techniques, negotiating skills, and the opportunity to learn from working in diverse cultures. Students are prepared to become effective leaders and global ambassadors. The petroleum academies were formed to make mathematics and science more meaningful and relevant, and also to address the workforce development issue facing the oil and natural gas industry due to an aging workforce. Students are genuinely excited about becoming the NEXT GENERATION of talented professionals who will continue to lead this industry forward.
