The East African Fund Incorporated is a registered Australian charity (No: CFN16123) registered in NSW, Australia, and meets all legal and fiduciary requirements. It was set up in 1999 by Gemma Sisia in order to establish a strong legal foundation for her charity work in East Africa.EAF collects money from Australian individuals and corporations to assist the development of people in East Africa. No money is received from government, and fundraising expenses amount to less than 2% of all proceeds collected.The East African Fund provides over 90% of the funds for the School of St Jude via Rotary Australia Worldwide Community Service (RAWCS). St Jude’s is EAF’s only project, although it has the flexibility to support other East African projects if needed in the future.

In February 2002, Gemma Sisia (nee Rice) from Northern NSW in Australia, founded The School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa.The classroom doors at The School of St Jude have been open for ten years now. As a charity-funded school, St Jude’s provides a free, high-quality education to over 1,500 of the poorest children of Arusha Region, Tanzania, while also providing boarding for over 1,000 students. Additionally, the school now provides employment to over 400 Tanzanians and purchases the essential goods required to run the school everyday from the local community. The ripple effect of these benefits on the community and beyond has been incredible.
