One of the greatest challenges with respect to trade policy is addressing issues surrounding inequality of income and opportunity. Together in a team of 5, we conducted our capstone Policy Analysis Exercise in conjunction with APEC to research the links between trade, employment and inequality in APEC economies. I had the opportunity at the CMC to design and teach a course in Media and Communication strategies. The module incorporated techniques to craft and deliver messages effectively in the different forms of media, by allowing them to harness the advantages of each medium. The course was designed to equip students with the knowledge, strategies and confidence to become "media ready" by the end of the duration of the module. In addition to teaching Media and Comms, I also: • Taught a module in Community Development (topics included consensus building and facilitation, with hands-on projects in the Cambridge community). • Was Regular commentator on BBC Radio 1 to discuss issues concerning the British Muslim community. • Led training program for four rounds of new recruits to the Cambridge Auxiliary Police Force.

    • National Spokesperson and Regional Communications Director
      • Oct 2005 - Oct 2007

      • Regular commentator and interviewee in both French and English news outlets within Canada and internationally, including the CBC, AFP, Reuters, BBC, France 24 and Al-Jazeera. • Secured sustained positive news coverage, generated effective debate, and contributed to policy dialogue: • Designed and co-ordinated media campaign regarding public inquiry on religious accommodation • Advised parliamentary committees on issues of security and terrorism, integration and immigration policy, and testified as an expert witness in Quebec’s parliamentary inquiry on reasonable accommodation. • Led national media response for major news stories including the Canadian security certificates, the French hijab ban and the Danish cartoon controversy. • Brought Canada’s Muslim women to the centre of debates affecting them, including front pages of the country’s largest French dailies and a high-profile Al-Jazeera documentary. • Represented NCCM in live debates e.g. with Barrister Julius Grey and former editor of Charlie Hebdo. • Led press conferences on Parliament Hill for national campaigns. • Provided awareness training to policymakers, media outlets, and NGOs including Quebec Order of Nurses, CTV News Network, CBC, Ministry of Health, and the Liberal Party.
