Correlated embryo sex to development progress to determine presence of correlation. Work culminated in thesis “Effect of sex on in vitro bovine embryo development” and presentation. Microfluidic Sperm Sorting Chip Project Designed and fabricated a microfluidic sperm sorting chip from polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) by developing SU-8 and SU-EX photoresist molds from copper masks to understand sperm motility within the female reproductive tract to allow for selection of optimal sperm (superior swimming abilities, genetics, and physical appearance) for in vitro fertilization using a bovine model. Chip features nano- and micro-scale grooves and channels mimicking those normally found within the female reproductive tract. Certified to use equipment in Cornell Nanoscale Science and Technology Facility. Giant African Pouched Rat Estrous Cycle Characterization Project Extracted and analyzed via ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) fecal progesterone and estrogen hormones from Giant African Pouched Rats to characterize the estrous cycle.
