Starting out my project engineer role at Armand Corporation at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic came with a bit of uncertainty but it did not prove to be limiting by any means. I have successfully been able to add positively to my knowledge of construction processes. This role has also given me the opportunity to gain experience with a new type of clientele and a diverse range of duties to address their needs. The change from private construction was a welcomed challenge to my mindset and approach I had developed thus far in this field. Armand Corporation's status as a minority/women-owned business has afforded me the opportunity to gain experience working for and alongside local government agencies to serve the city of New York, especially in its time of need with the COVID-19 pandemic by participating in the FEMA-sponsored program to provide testing and vaccine resources. Assisting further with the current needs of my company has led me to handling invoices for not only for Armand's various services but also for other hardworking MWBE companies who gladly work with and for us. Filling that need has allowed me to work closely with city agency representatives and become well-acquainted with the city's process of releasing earned funds for projects that improve the lives of my fellow New Yorkers. Working as member of the New York REDCOM team was height of my experience working in the private sector of construction. I experienced a lot of construction "firsts", such as building additional floors on top of a pre-existing building and being a part of coordination for a crane to be hoisted by another crane onto a rooftop (it was the largest crane on a roof in NYC at the time). I have also experienced my most challenging of projects with REDCOM, working with multiple stakeholders involved and some projects with very specialized trades or with a large number of trades required (10+). My expertise grew exponentially as I worked on residential and commercial spaces with my highest project value being $110M+. My project coordination skills were refined due to the need to interface with clients, city/county agency representatives, contractors, consultants, field supers as well as my own team members in addition to tracking extremely important paperwork like contracts, permits and insurance. In this position, I also received much-needed exposure to a variety of highly effective and innovative project management tools that encouraged seamless communication with all parties my company managed, consistent information exchange and helpful project tracking. This role truly pushed me to constantly look for feedback and ways to improve my construction management skills. Show less

My role as an assistant project manager has afforded me the opportunity to get a closer look at the construction world. I have seen what happens with a project once fully out of the design phase. Managing a project is so much more than compiling budgets and getting the right subcontractors to get the job done on time. It also means learning to manage people with varying viewpoints and demands to effectively and efficiently reach an end goal - having a satisfied client and work I can be proud of. I am learning more and more through each phase of a project that as ideal as it would be to have everything go smoothly, the reality is, that won't always be the case. What's of greater importance is how I approach getting back on track. Show less

      • Dec 2014 - Oct 2015

This experience offered me great insight to the retail world. Although on the support side of the company, I was always aware of how my role affects the customer, our number one priority. Working so closely with the project managers, I was able to see first hand how processes get developed and even play a part in how they were changed to make projects go smoother, whether it was reassigning or reemphasizing responsibilities or deciding on a process for paperwork. I learned to prioritize and stay organized which was a must due to the amount capital projects my department received and because of working with multiple project managers at a time. If one of my counterparts was not in, picking up the slack was not a question. Show less

    • Intern

The French Heritage Society was a excellent cultural non-profit experience. With my Parisian study abroad background, this was the perfect compliment to that adventure. Not only was I able to work alongside with people who were passionate about French culture as I was but I also and the chance to reach out to others to support that. Sending out regular correspondence to our members emphasized to them (and served as a reminder to myself) the importance of these older architectural works in French culture. Working at FHS afforded me the opportunity to get involved in event planning. My involvement with their biggest fundraising event of the year, a gala, taught me what was critical to pulling it off - efficient management of time and people and multi-tasking! Organization was key in order for me to give valuable support to the event manager. Show less

    • Senior Summer Associate
      • Jun 2013 - Sep 2014

For two summers in a row, I spent my time with the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, contributing to park, the immediate community and to NYC on a whole through the various programs I helped set up and supervise. This position refined my problem solving skills as a variety of factors, be it weather or curious park-goers, occasionally arose and impeded events I was responsible for. During my time there I watched the park develop as more and more of it was being built. I remember when there was nothing remotely resembling a community refuge there so it was incredible to see the transformation and the liveliness of it all continuously grow. It really fed my interest in urban design and sustainability as I learned about the building methods and observed how it's development impacted the community. Show less
