Sarah Baxter went through my contract with a publisher meticulously and very patiently responded to the endless correspondence that ensued and never ceased to be diligent. Excellent expertise.

I am an advisor for the Society of Authors (SoA), a membership organisation and independent trade union which has been serving the interests of professional writers since 1884. As well as the detailed vetting of publishing, agency and film/television option agreements, I advise SoA members on issues related to the business of writing such as intellectual property, the termination of contracts, copyright permissions and chasing payment. As part of the Literary Estates team I represent acclaimed authors including LP Hartley, Compton Mackenzie, Lytton Strachey and Alison Uttley. This involves the exploitation of a wide range of rights - publication, audio, dramatisation - and negotiating and drafting agreements. I deal with permissions requests and amateur licensing relating to all of the literary estates represented by the SoA. I also administer the Society’s charitable grants; these are modest awards made on an occasional basis (on application) to professional authors in financial difficulty. Show less
