I found this opportunity through networking with industry professionals and although politics is extremely out of my comfort zone, I still attended the group discussion. By listening to opinions of many other young people in the group, I was able to input my own thoughts in regard to the upcoming election. By putting myself out there, I was selected by producers to appear on their Sunday Politics broadcast to share my opinion, but most importantly to urge other young people to vote. Although working just one week at BBC Newsround, I wanted to work with purpose. I co-wrote the article: Bake Off: Sandi Toksvig leaves Channel 4 show, whereby I learnt their copywriting format. Alongside this, I researched interviewees to take part in TV bulletin in regard to the Australian bushfires, titled: What's it like in Australia for kids right now? Here, I learnt the importance of in-depth research and how to approach interviewees in the most timely and efficient way, even on the opposite side of the world. Learning an abundance of practical skills is an important factor to the contribution of my success, and I made sure to endeavour to not focus on copywriting alone. I decided to use my intuition and mix with various sections of the newsroom and ended up assisting in the gallery during their daily news bulletin, learning in-studio how filming and lighting was run, as well as how to read the auto cue. I watched on as interviews were being held, and took mental notes on the journalists approach, both in studio and in the public. In addition to this, I learnt how written articles and video pieces are processed, edited and published. While I only had one article written and published by myself, I still found a lot of value during this week long work experience that I will not find anywhere else, and I am proud of myself for stepping outside the box I was placed in and pushing myself to learn more. Working as part of a small team, we attended a two-day festival and dedicated our days to videography and Vox pops. My duties included interviewing famous DJ's in the disco genre, doing Vox pops on festival goers, and filming content on professional filming equipment. These clips were later edited on PremierePro to produce two separate promotional videos for Instagram and Facebook.
