Human Resources Generalist

Jul 2022 - Present
In my role as HR Generalist, I am responsible for full-cycle recruitment, document and policy development, performance management support, and effective human resources at Scw’exmx Child and Family Services Society (SCFSS). I complete recruitment activities, from talent acquisition to onboarding and orientation for new hires. Additionally, I maintain policies and human resources documents, statistics, and provide HR support to our member communities. I also administer training, professional development, and employee wellness programs at SCFSS. This position requires a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in interactions and maintaining standards of practice based on provincial and federal employment standards and law. Working with SCFSS, I have gained knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the historical and systemic impacts of intergenerational trauma on Indigenous families and communities from colonialism, residential school history, the sixties scoop, and association with the child welfare system. SCFSS has provided me with Level 1 training of the nłeʔkepmx language as well as ongoing inclusion of cultural traditions. Show less

Clerk Typist

Oct 2021 - Jun 2022
My role as Development Services Clerk was a temporary role created to assist the Development Services Department with the high volume of work as a result of the increase of development in Merritt. The position involved creating and maintaining incoming building permit files, receiving payments for permit invoices, issuing permits and scheduling required inspections for each file. The role required a great deal of follow-up, accuracy, and knowledge of the building and zoning bylaws. I was able to learn the requirements of the position in a short time frame due to the Coldwater River atmospheric flood event. I was the main point-of-contact in the office for assisting flood inundated residents with necessary permits for their affected properties as well as information and removal of rapid damage assessment placards. This unforeseen work required understanding, composure, and a supportive ability to serve residents in a prompt yet comfortable environment without adding pressure to an already strained circumstance. This work was gratifying and offered meaningful pride at the end of each workday. Show less

Executive Assistant

Dec 2017 - Oct 2021
I provided support to the Secretary Treasurer by effectively and efficiently handling the administrative duties and responsibilities of the Office of the Secretary Treasurer and the Board of Education in all areas pertaining to the Board’s corporate affairs. This involved all logistics of monthly Board meetings, recording and preparing meeting minutes, maintaining all Board records and finalizing subsequent follow-up from meetings. I also managed the District Policy & Regulation Manual which included drafting new policies and revising current policies for Board approval. This work required sound judgment and tact in dealing with Trustees. I also successfully performed the role as the Chief Electoral Officer for the municipal election of school district Trustees. Being the Benefit Administrator for the district, I was responsible for enrolling, canceling, and changing all levels of benefits for all district employees with a high degree of discretion and confidentiality. As the Acting Human Resources Coordinator, I drafted and posted all vacant positions for the district, selected candidates to move forward in the recruitment process, maintained seniority lists and performed all onboarding and offboarding practices. Mar 2005 - Apr 2017
I managed coordination of Provincial Cabinet Ministers’ schedules as well as Chiefs of Staff, Ministerial Assistants and Executive Assistants. This involved scheduling high-level meetings, arranging ministry briefing materials and executive staff support, booking local/national/international travel arrangements and submitting travel reimbursements. Prioritizing and preparing confidential correspondence and agendas as well as tracking and ensuring Ministerial decision notes and Cabinet documents are signed. As the office expense authority, I approved all office purchases, travel expenses and assisted with creating and entering benefit claims. Preparing and approving office finances, reconciliation of purchasing cards, and signing off all employee timecards was my responsibility. I managed the training of all new employees as well as delegated the daily assignments. I maintained a close working relationship with ministry staff, legislative staff, stakeholders, and constituency offices. Hired as an Order in Council (OIC) excluded employee, I have had to opportunity to work with many different ministries and numerous Cabinet Ministers and have learned to adjust quickly to new office environments.
