Nick Sharples
Sarah was employed by The Manchester Grammar School from September 2016 to the end of May 2017. She is a confident young woman who coped admirably with all the demands placed on her by the department. Particularly impressive was the way in which she delivered conversation lessons to year 12 and 13 students, preparing candidates for public examinations with aplomb. She sensibly sought advice on how to prepare and present material but had plenty of innovative ideas of her own and showed a natural feel for pitching work at the right level. She has a friendly, approachable manner which made her a popular teacher with all her students but she also commanded the pupils’ respect through excellent classroom management. She put in long hours of preparation and regularly went beyond her regular hours, giving up time to come into school and offer further practice to students. She carried out her role with unfailing good-humour and efficiency. Her ability to explain in simple terms the complexities of the language to her pupils was striking. She worked hard to improve her already impressive proficiency in English, and regularly conversed with native speakers to improve her use of idiom. Sarah had no time off work for any reason and was unfailingly punctual. It was a great regret for me and the French department as a whole that she decided to leave us after only one year and I would happily employ her again in the future. Miss Manierka is a delightful, focused young woman whom I am pleased to recommend unreservedly.
