I started working closely with Sarah after our Communications workstream collapsed from a team of three to a team of one. Sarah worked diligently to pick up additional work to ensure no balls were dropped. This included diving into critical marketing and advertising work to support the Recruitment and Admissions Team- teaching herself how to use and manipulate our marketing automation platform Salesforce Pardot and interpret analytics data and set ads within Google. Because of her work enhancing email communication through Pardot, we saw email open rates jump 10+ percentage points above industry standards with click through rates increasing as well. In addition to going above and beyond to meet organizational needs, Sarah is very thoughtful and thorough in her approach. She proactively anticipates potential risks or obstacles to a project or task and incorporates those into her project planning. For example, when asked to develop a general FY21 Communications budget based on expenses from the previous year she developed three budgets to be adaptive to potential financial scenarios, which proved beneficial as the organization faced financial uncertainty driven by COVID. She does the same when it comes to setting up Town Halls or developing talking points for C-level staff, which has led to more robust, honest and anticipatory dialogue. When having to deliver tough information, Sarah is direct and fair. She takes time to explain a decision and offer an alternative solution wherever possible. For example, though she is unable to develop all of the communications content required by the organization, she has offered to edit content generated by other teams and has developed guidance documents to build the communications skills of other staff members realizing capacity constraints. As someone who has managed Sarah, I have always been impressed by her openness to feedback, drive towards improvement and often self-led development, willingness to ask tough questions and utmost discretion. It was such a pleasure to partner closely with her on projects, pick her brain on problems and learn from her expertise. She would be an asset to any organization!

What a breath of fresh air! It's very rare nowadays to meet someone who isn't interested in office politics, and rather, has a sincere concern for their co-workers as well as a passion for their work. Sarah is very intelligent, well-versed, and detail-oriented, but I also appreciate the level of transparency with which she approached her work. In my experience working with Sarah, she strived to uncover, present, and convey information that connected our audience to the organization's goals, whether it was to attract and recruit new students for the program, seek new opportunities within the local area, or, showcase opportunities to grow the business. She utilized all available resources to create convincing, relevant, and understandable marketing campaigns that resonated with her audience. Whether working autonomously or in a group, Sarah made sure each of us was up-to-date on trends in the local area and industry and that we understood their relevance to our work. She constantly challenged our team to re-think how we presented information. Sarah was a joy to work with and possesses a big-picture view of marketing that would be an asset to any company.

At Pew I was part of a team of experienced reporters and editors working to make sense of public policy trends across the nation. Here, I wrote and reported on consumer trends, marijuana legalization and policing reform. The highlight of this time was the opportunity to work on a trio of stories about natural disaster recovery and spending in the age of observable climate change. I spent several months traveling the country, particularly the Gulf Coast region, to write these stories. They were published in a number of outlets including The Washington Post. When not in the field, I enjoyed assuming leadership roles on my team and joining in the hiring process of a new editor.
