The Friends work with Everyone Active (SLM) and Bristol City Council to promote Bristol South Swimming Pool on Dean Lane. Corporation baths in Bristol once totalled 14, including 4 open air baths. When Bristol South opened on 16 April 1931 it was one of 4, then very modern, corporation baths. The others were Barton Hill Baths (1903 to 1997), Bristol North Baths (1922 to 2005) and Broad Weir Baths (1930 to [1997]). Bristol South Baths were built on the site of a former colliery owned by the Smyth family of Ashton Court, and were part of the same bequest of land to the council as Dame Emily (as in Dame Emily Smyth) Park. Today Bristol South Baths is one of the most historically significant swimming pools in the area and Grade 2 listed. It is one of the only two original corporation baths remaining which are still used as public pools, the other is Jubilee Pool in Knowle. With the support and assistance of the site manager and SLM the Friends have, since 2012, been running pool tours. These include the marble terrazzo 'slipper baths' (which were sealed off from public use for 50 years) and the pool's plant room which still contains the original lancashire boilers.
