"Do you still work on social media and content writing?" were her exact words. "Yeah... "There is a company that is looking for a social media manager/content writer. If you are up for it, send a sample." A local NGO? Never taught I would find myself here honestly. But it is a place where I tested my social media management skills. Not only that, I got to work on: -Writing quarterly blogs -Telling stories through content -Preparing social media calendar -Defining a company's tone of voice -Company page profile optimization -Analyzing monthly content performance -Creating a content strategy from scratch -Writing and designing the very first newsletter -Creating specific Canva designs using brand colors -Posting content 5x/week on LinkedIn and Facebook -Effective social media management for a social enterprise -Improving the follower and engagement on LinkedIn and Facebook I not only upskilled since September but I was confident in my social media management skills.

I got my first international client with a skill I wanted to be good at but had ZERO experience in. If this is not luck, I don't know what is. But my intention was, "I want to look for a writing skill that doesn't involve Canva, image, or video." That was why I shifted to blog writing. Here's how it went: Before I applied, I wrote some 300 word mock sample on fashion. When my samples got approved, I felt like I got paid. I wrote words like I have never written before. And I learned: -Copywriting -Editing blogs -Improving readability score -Keyword research and placement -Researching topics I had no idea about -Specifying blog topics for a targeted reach -Simplifying complicated topics into beginner friendly -Writing different formats (How to's, Listicles, comparisons, and step-by-step guides) The Result? -100+ blogs written in 4 months -Both first and a long-term client -Shifted from passive writing to active writing -Cut writing time in half (From 4 hours for a 500 word blog to 2 hours) -Went from being clueless about content writing to having experience in blogs and social media in 7 months. Then I said "I don't think I need to tell people that I graduated with Civil Engineering anymore."

"Should I just send a cold DM to a founder I find on LinkedIn and find out what happens?" And I did! Then I got a reply I never expected. It was not only just a success but it also handed me another client through referral after 5 months. Sat down for a coffee and phew... Trying to pitch a service you learned on YouTube is NERVEWRACKING. And worse I didn't have any experience to back it up. But I really wanted to practice social media copy, Canva designing, and research. I was upfront about what I can do. And mentioned clearly that I am a beginner but I would like to try different approaches. Agreed to do social media content for 3 months for FREE (Almost) This one reply helped me: -Improve my research skills from Google search to using Keyword tools -Craft better headlines (From generic to specific) -Understand new topics (Human Resource consulting) -Upgrade my Canva designing skills and -Practice social media copywriting I had ZERO content/social media experience in the HR consulting industry. But in these 3 months I learned; -The HR department is often undervalued and addressing it on social media is a good start -Most companies worry about recruiting more than retention -File/database organization keeps the work flow. (We highlighted the before and after of a client) I didn't know what these 3 months meant at that moment but It definitely paved my career as a content writer. And I was able to confidently say that "I am a content writer."
