The Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) is an educational institute and nonpartisan think tank based in New York City that studies domestic immigration and international migration issues. The organization is devoted to public policies that safeguard the dignity and rights of migrants worldwide. In recent years, CMS has been known for producing research addressing the U.S. immigrant detention system, the U.S. and global refugee protection systems, and data on the undocumented immigrant population in the United States. https://cmsny.org/ My role as a research assistant will culminate in conducting 5 to 6 semi-structured 45 to 60-minute interviews with Spanish-speaking immigrants on a variety of topics, including their migration history, access to health care and public benefits, concerns about Trump administration policies, and their concerns and health during the coronavirus pandemic. The results from interviews will be summarized in a report that will be published in summer 2021.

The door is a wraparound youth services non-profit organization based in Soho, New York City. In my role as an intake counselor, I was responsible for conducting bilingual trauma-informed intake interviews utilizing the HEADSS model for new youth members, and referred new members to various on-site educational, lifestyle, and career services. In this role, I became intimately aware of the structural and cultural barriers faced by urban youth raised in poverty.
