Reading Program Coordinator
-
May 2018 - Aug 2018
Throughout the summer, I had the opportunity to plan, coordinate, and conduct two summer reading programs for the Coaldale Public Library. With a focus on child literacy, the programs involved reading, crafts, and games that flourished children's literacy and social skills. Literacy is crucial to be a functioning participant in society so it is important to grow and build on these skills from a young age. I promoted the TD Summer Reading Program and Hot Book Club to local schools through assemblies and carrying out publicity activities such as creating a float for the Coaldale Parade. Recruiting, scheduling, and supervising volunteers to help with the programs allowed me to flourish my interpersonal skills in addition to my leadership skills. Statistics and evaluations were included in a final report of the entire summer. As we know, literacy is in everything we do! From reading, to following maps, to listening to music, which is why I take so much pride in the programs I was able to run this summer.
