Summer Camp Counselor

2014 - 2016
SKILLS GAINED: This employment opportunity provided leadership experience, time management skills, and provided multi-cultural exposure. I developed both the ability to listen and to hold a firm line. Working with a different cabin of girls each week provided the exceptional opportunity to invest in youth from all walks of life with diverse economic and social backgrounds. Some youth had physical disabilities. Others had emotional or mental illness. One week we had children visiting from Asia. Team building skills were expanded and a sense of community fostered. DESCRIPTION: For three consecutive summers provided 24/7 supervision of youth in assigned cabins of up to 8 campers each week, Sunday through Friday. Imparted care, enthusiasm, and assistance in various recreational pursuits (swimming, crafts, hiking, meals, boating, archery, team sports, camp outs, high & low element challenge course, skits, and music). Handled illness, home sickness, hostilities/disagreements, and injury. Braided hair, painted nails, gave piggy back rides, and listened to heartaches and dreams. Reflected positive role model image
