    • Research Assistant (Sequencing)
      • Apr 2019 - Jul 2020

I worked in the metagenomics pipeline using the Illumina NextSeq platform to generate sequence data for microbial community samples. Primarily Nextera Flex and XT protocols. I was the sole RA working on metagenomics projects during this time. Involved in troubleshooting of low quality/low input/degraded DNA for sequencing. Planning runs, sample archiving, scheduling (6 week turnaround time, often 2-3 runs per week). Some experience in the Amplicon pipeline as well. Some experience in TruSeq prep.

      • Feb 2017 - Sep 2017

At this store I primarily worked in Drive Thru. I balanced friendliness with accuracy and speed. I worked efficiently to take orders, payment, and deliver the order at a limit of 30 seconds per car. This role requires strong communication skills both with customers and with crew who are working at other stations on Drive Thru. During rush periods I was able to multi-task under pressure to keep accuracy of order, customer experience, and timeliness high.

    • Crew Member
      • Aug 2016 - Feb 2017

As crew member I was involved in customer service, keeping a clean workstation, order taking and order production, and production of food such as fries, drinks, and desserts.

    • Summer Research Student
      • Nov 2016 - Feb 2017

Based on prior academic standing I received the Summer Research Scholarship (total value $3000AUD).In this project, I used molecular techniques to carry out a new assay for ciguatoxin contamination detection in fish. Ciguatoxins result in food poisoning at very low doses, and affect 10,000-50,000 people/year. We were sent samples from the University of Sydney for processing with HPLC-MS to determine if the samples contained ciguatoxins. Skills developed* cone snail milking and handling* HPLC* FLIPR assays* Vacuum freezing of samples* Maintenance of human neuroblastoma cells

    • PASS (Peer Assisted Study Session) Leader (BIOL1030)
      • Mar 2015 - Jun 2015

PASS enables first year students to engage in university content in an engaging and non-threatening environment. In classes of 30-50, three PASS leaders guide and facilitate the learning of the class. I was a PASS leader for two streams of BIOL1030 Global Issues in Biology in semester 1, 2015. The role involved working with two other leaders, organising a 50minute lesson plan per week, keeping up to date with the current running of the course, and selecting appropriate learning resources.
