As part of the travel and events team, I helped to develop a plan for organising international conferences in a post lockdown world. This involved working out how to balance the physical safety and wellbeing of delegates and Wellcome’s commitment to sustainability while providing an enriching and useful conference experience. I also enjoyed learning about Wellcome’s COVID response and meeting and talking to people on the graduate programme, as well as my fellow interns. As the President of the University of Birmingham Women in Politics Society we organised multiple events to help self-identifying Women across the Univeristy engage in politics. We held a mock assessment centre with fast-track civil servants. We also held a panel discussion and debate titled 'Nudity: Empowerment or Oppression'. Our final event involved a conference from five distinguished speakers including the Lord Mayor of Birmingham and Mary rhodes, about their experiences and obstacles in being a women in their careers. We also held multiple more casual 'Politics and Pizza' nights, as a chance for Women to discuss politics in a more relaxed manner. As president I was responsible for organising these events, and was also in charge of the online communications. Show less
