MESCO started its first fundraising activity with collection of old newspapers from house to house since 1968. The funds generated through this activity were utilized to provide school/college books to poor students. Hence old newspaper collection was the major source of funds during initial days. Starting MESCO’s budget has reached over Rs.1 crore.. from individuals, companies both in India and abroad. However, MESCO expanded its newspaper collection network which now generates over Rs.10 lacs net income from the sale of old newspapers. The funds received through sale of old newspapers are used in the following manner: To provide Educational Scholarships to school and college students. To assist patients in dire need of funds for treatment of dialysis and minor surgeries and diagnostic tests for other diseases. To provide sewing machines to destitute and widows.
