    • Tech lead and expert Linux embedded software engineer
      • Apr 2020 - Dec 2021

During this phase, I led the development of a new modern embedded Linux distribution for Toshiba. That included creating the metadata recipes to customize the OS; preparing all the cloud services to build, test and register customized OS images; reviewing code from developers from Japan, India and Vietnam; and writing all the documentation. I also led the CIP core and software updates working group.

    • Senior Linux embedded software engineer
      • Apr 2013 - Mar 2020

I developed, researched and customized Linux operating systems for tens of embedded boards and high-performance computers used in highly critical civil infrastructure systems. This role involved numerous skills such as kernel driver development, FPGA debugging, OS customization (Debos, Yocto, Debian, ISAR), programming languages (mainly C, Python, and Shell scripts), build containers from scratch (LXC/Docker), git, kernel configuration (real-time, size optimization, security hardening, device trees), and cloud OS customization (AWS, Azure).During this job I also contributed to various open source projects such as the Fuego testing tool (main contributor award), the Linux kernel, LTP (Linux Test Project), Jailhouse (a partitioning hypervisor for x86_64 and arm), or KernelCI.I also gave presentations at events such as:- LinuxCon + CloudOpen Japan 2015- LinuxCon & ContainerCon 2016- Japan Technical Jamboree 59 2016- Open Source Conference Spring 2017- Fuego Jamboree2 2018I also participated in Linux Foundation's Civil Infrastructure Project (CIP) as a member of the Technical Steering Committee. CIP is a project that aims at extending the support of Linux to match the lifespan of civil infrastructure systems such as power generation plants. During this project, I interacted with members from multiple international companies and participated in the technical discussions and decisions of the project.Ref: https://www.cip-project.org/blog/2017/10/23/cip-launches-cip-core Show less

      • Oct 2012 - Mar 2013

During my doctoral degree (and 6 more months as a contracted researcher) I developed SafeG, a piece of software written in ARM assembly code that allows 2 operating systems (e.g.: Linux and an RTOS such as FMP or ASP) to run on the same ARM single or multi-core processor. SafeG was released under the TOPPERS license and is now a commercially supported software used in highly critical embedded systems and civil infrastructure all around the world. During my doctoral degree I learned and/or improved my knowledge about ARM processors, multicore processing, Linux kernel internals (drivers, scheduler, custom modules), microITRON real-time operating systems, programming skills (ARM assembly code, C), JTAG debuggers, QEMU internals (contributed a bug fix to the ARM interrupt controller emulation subsystem), presentation skills, journal writing skills, and Japanese language. • Contract Researcher on Real-Time Distributed Systems.
      • 2006 - 2009

I worked for the FRESCOR project on network protocols for Real-Time Distributed Embedded Systems. During this period I designed and developed 2 network protocols: FRESCOR RTEP, a contract-based real-time network based on resource contracts that re-uses COTS ethernet switches; and FRESCAN, a protocol on top of CAN bus that supports resource contracts. I also wrote multiple drivers (Wifi cards, CAN cards, PCMCIA, Hard disk, DAC/ADC cards, I2C chips, a compass device), and a file system for a real-time operating system. Finally, I also wrote a distributed transaction manager for applications to request resources (e.g., network or CPU) in a distributed system (see the papers section for details). https://www.istr.unican.es/publications.html (papers) https://marte.unican.es/about.htm (drivers, filesystems, protocols) Show less
