Friends of the Muskoka Watershed (FOTMW) is a charity with the goal of protecting Muskoka watersheds forever. We monitor threats to our watersheds, identify threats, research and find science-based solutions and get the community involved in the plan. You may know about their ASHMuskoka work but other areas of research (and concern) include road salt impacting our lakes and the return of hazardous algal blooms. I'm working with media, community partners, volunteers and scientists, sharing the stories of the great work underway at FOTMW. Contact me if you want to get involved and make a difference!

    • Executive Director
      • Aug 2016 - Mar 2022

As executive director, I worked with a staff of 5-7 and was responsible for the Gravenhurst Tourism & Visitor Centre, Service Ontario and the 280-member Gravenhurst Chamber of Commerce. Communication with chamber members, politicians, community leaders and municipal partners was an important part of my role. Working with a dedicated volunteer board of directors, we developed a new chamber strategic plan, a new website and experienced huge growth in our social media. And let's not forget about events - we were responsible for the annual Gravenhurst Car Show, Dockside Festival, Gala, Santa Claus parade and even hosted the Ontario Chamber of Commerce AGM in Muskoka in 2019 (in partnership with Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce). I learned a lot, met some amazing people, worked hard, made a difference and had a bit of fun too. It was a good five-and-a-half years.

Had a great opportunity to check something off my bucket list - working part-time as a snowboard instructor - after Postmedia closed Muskoka Magazine. • Editor
      • Jun 2009 - Jan 2016

Led staffing, curated and edited content for a monthly lifestyle publication (Muskoka Magazine) targeted to seasonal residents, visitors and local residents who love everything Muskoka. Worked closely with assistant editor on the News-based publication What's Up Muskoka. Composing a regular column, taking photos, writing and editing copy were some of my many responsibilities. The highlights: I worked with a team of talented writers, photographers, graphic designers and sales professionals and was able to meet many fascinating people! (I also tried out flyboarding with the team at SWS).
