I had the privilege of having worked with Sandeep when he was leading the Industry Segment for Multinational Banks in the Financial Services Sector at IBM. He played a pivotal role in creating a completely new revenue stream for the organization. Sandeep is an excellent leader, a coach, and a good friend. His strength was that he was strategic in his thinking and had the ability to structure deals while ensuring all the stakeholders are onboard. Happy to see him achieve so may career milestones and wish him greater success ahead.

They say you realize the real worth of something only when you are bereft of it. No matter how clichéd this maxim may sound, I experienced the weight of these sage words firsthand, when I renounced the secure confines of corporate world and joined the entrepreneurial bandwagon in June’18. The onus of leading a team suddenly fell on me, only to make me realize what an onerous job a leader’s is, and how easy Sandeep made it seem like by dealing with even the most convoluted of challenges so deftly. The pivotal role Sandeep played in turning around the performance of RBS’ SCS India division - a successful transformation I proudly played a tiny part in – is fairly well documented. Juxtaposing the numbers of today vis-à-vis those when he took over the reins, is enough a testimonial of how his charismatic leadership has changed the team’s fortunes. However, the leadership quality that, perhaps, appealed to me the most was his uncanny ability to strike a chord with every team-member. The feat is all the more awe-inspiring when one takes a closer look at the dynamics of the team, spread across four culturally diverse Indian cities. At one end of the spectrum were the industry-veterans working diligently for decades, while the Gen Z-millennial populace - many of whom weren’t even born when the other end of the spectrum took to corporate world - formed the other end of the spectrum. While the seniors could relate with his dedication and perseverance that exemplified their zeitgeist, the tech-savvy youth embraced his Big Bang Theory and other contemporary innuendos. He thus became the cohesive force to marshal this motley crew towards unprecedented success. A true believer in all-round development of his team, Sandeep laid as much emphasis on health and well-being as he did on the work. It was, hence, not a surprise to me that Sandeep spoke of the need to adopt agile technologies on the work front as fervently as he advocated agile minds and bodies on personal front. The candid tete-a-tete with Sandeep instilled in me a sense confidence and helped me make some tricky decisions. His astute knowledge of the market situation and ability to impart valuable insights to mentees like me have played a big role in my relatively smooth transition to a leadership role. A resounding thumbs up to Sandeep's brand of leadership!
