I have served on the Board of Trustees of the Air League with Sam Gervais for the last 4 years. The Air League is a United Kingdom registered charity that seeks to promote opportunities in the aviation and aerospace sectors with a particular focus on young people. The League has only a small permanent staff and hence relies heavily on the efforts of volunteers, led by trustees, to deliver success. Sam is a proactive, engaged and competent trustee. Innovative, diligent and highly conscientious, he is always at the fore of those ready to take on responsibility. Importantly, he can always be relied upon to manage carefully the delivery of any project assigned to him through to positive conclusion. Sam is an intelligent, altruistic, hard-working individual. It has been my pleasure to watch him grow in confidence and self-assurance while developing levels of wisdom and intellectual maturity that belie his years. A natural leader and manager, he has an admirably straightforward approach to decision making. Sensitive to the needs of others, his cheerful good humour and positivity ensures that he is willingly followed by all that work with him. I have also been impressed by Sam’s ability to be robust in the face of challenge by some who might resist change and innovation in favour of a more staid and traditional approach.
