I developed and implemented investor education plans / initiatives and supported the implementation of communication and public relations activities of the CMA with an aim of improving investor confidence in the market, increasing investor participation and enhancing investor protection.The overall purpose of the communication, public education and public affairs officer was to monitor and strengthen relationships between the CMA and its various stakeholders such as issuers, investors, regulated agencies, government agencies, donors, the media and general public with a view to improve trust/confidence in CMA’s regulatory role, maintaining robust community relations with the CMA’s internal and external publics, locally and internationally to increase the visibility of CMA’s work and to raise awareness about capital markets so as to enable the CMA to attain targets set out in the capital markets development masterplan.I was responsible for creating awareness of the capital markets, its products and to nurture strategic relationships with enablers such as influential CEOs, the office of H. E. The President of the Republic of Uganda, influential politicians, Academia (universities, research institutes, private researchers), Ministry of Finance technical teams (Minister, PSST, Tax policy, Under Secretary, Economic Affairs), Parliament (Speaker, Finance Committee Chair & Vice Chair), Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs so as to return on investment for CMA’s activities aimed at increasing investor participation in the capital markets and ensure investor complaints and concerns are fully addressed in line with CMA’s investor protection mandate. My job was to ensure that the CMA was known for its speed of action and progress/contribution to improvements and reforms that advance Uganda’s business environment, particularly Uganda’s capital markets.
