Serves as Mechanical Engineer/Technical Project Officer and team member in the Fuze & Precision Armaments Technology Directorate with responsibility for a portion of the team program. Establishes and monitors the scientific and development initiatives for projects assigned that include exploratory, advanced, or full-scale development programs. The nature of the work performed is characterized by frequently or recurring complexities such as the non-applicability of established criteria and technical precedents and inadequacy or unavailability of data requiring skill in improvising and judgment in making key engineering/scientific recommendations that have an impact on the development program concerned. As appropriate, specific duties include the following activities for the specialty provided or the functional area supported: development, production, quality assurance, ILS, etc. As a technical specialist, plans, coordinates, or conducts feasibility studies to determine approaches and concepts to address systems integration problems and develop new or improved techniques, processes, materials, and equipment in assigned systems. Provides support in specialized areas during phases of the product life cycle to include research, development, procurement, initial production, and disposal. Provides technical direction, advice, review, and evaluation of contractor work in developing new equipment and concepts. Prepares contract requests defining complex requirements, objectives to be obtained, and standards of performance. Gives technical guidance to Procurement on contracts and makes recommendations for the award of contracts. Develops new methods, procedures, and techniques; develops new processes; develops new design standards, criteria, and policy for facilities, equipment, tools, etc.

Perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, development, design, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse military electronic/mechanical equipment and systems; participate on design, analysis or review team(s) on more complex engineering assignments.
