      • May 2005 - Sep 2016

I had a secretarial role off the water and an instructor role on the water, this meant that I had to accept, file and sort all the membership forms and allocate spaces for the courses. This role also involved me allocating boats to students and securing sufficient instructors to meet the regulations set out by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association). However first and for most I was an instructor, this involved me having up to 6 students in 6 boats and having to challenge all to them to improve their sailing skills. Whilst on the water I had to maintain the safety of my students and myself, alongside ensuring they were learning and the make sure that they were having fun.

      • Jun 2014 - Jun 2015

My role acts as a support function for both the traders and for the company, in that I report the daily PnL, FX exposures and such like to both senior management and traders. I am also there to control the risk that the traders are undertaking but also there to offer help as and when they need it. For example moving into new markets or increasing their trading activity. My role involves a high level of communication both through emails/instant messaging and face to face, I feel that this is something that can only get better with time. Furthermore it requires me to have an in depth view into the trading sector and current market conditions to help explain the risks that us as a company are potentially at risk from and to comment to the board as to the daily PnL swings.

      • Feb 2013 - May 2014

I work as a 'busser' and this involves a variety of tasks ranging from collecting the glasses from around the nightclub to washing them to mopping up spills. I am also responsible for ensuring the bars are stocked up at the beginning, during and at the end of the night. Recently I have changed roles slightly to working either in the cloakroom taking coats or up on the reception stamping customers once they have paid. Whilst doing this role I speak to a lot of different people and this has resulted in a further improvement in my communication skills; as inebriated people are slightly hard to explain things to.

      • Jun 2012 - Aug 2012

For the past 2 summers I have worked in Poole for Rockley Watersports, which are one of the biggest sailing schools in the UK. I worked as dinghy instructor teaching adults and children how to sail, this ranges in ability from beginner to advanced to instructor training. Upon return this year, my responsibility was increased as I started to run fleets with other instructors under my control. In the evenings we ran evening entertainments for children on residential courses, some of these were on site some weren't. I was regularly in control of the weekly trip off site to a local water park; this involves me gaining loco parentis for this time and the responsibility of taking children as young as 7 to a water park is huge. On occasions when I wasn't instructing I had to provide rescue cover in a powerboat for other instructors, and also worked on shore repairing boats and the centre.

    • Head Waiter/ Bar Staff
      • Sep 2008 - Apr 2012

My main role was in front of house, for the local rugby club which served sit down 3/4 course lunches to spectators and visiting club members before the game. I also cooked for the players for when they came up to the bar after the game. I would set and lay the tables; assist in cooking; serve and manage the other waiters. The wide range of my role gave me experience in all areas which has become useful in many other roles. The main event of the year was the Sportsman's Dinner; this is when 150 guests arrive for a 4 course meal. I had to manage the serving and clearing of over 600 plates, also under my control I had 6 waiters, 3 dolly girls and 2 bar staff. This was hard work but very rewarding especially as year on year customers said it the best year yet. After the event every year I would sit down with the other staff and reflect on the event, from here we would try to think of ways that we could improve the service and see if we can make the staff's jobs easier.

    • Management accountant
      • Jul 2011 - Jul 2011

I worked for the management accounts team at the headquarters in Guildford, Surrey. I worked alongside a graduate underneath the finance director, who I had meetings with and gave my opinion to. My role involved creating a graduate leaflet for graduates and placement students when they start to inform them of who they need to know, operating streams, hierarchy and what to do if there is a problem. I was also involved in the testing of a SAP update which they were about to set live, this involved me running through day to day processes on an offline version. It was very important that I completed these tasks quickly, efficiently and accurately to make certain when the update was made live it didn't have any problems and prevent the accountants from doing their job.
