Innovative Design and Art Lab The primary efforts of this lab include: 4D scanning system design Digital human modeling method development Shape optimization Additive manufacturing methods My research efforts for this lab also included numerical analysis programming and the utilization of a spectral shape descriptor to enable big-data analysis of a set of digital human models. Use of the spectral shape descriptor can enable a mathematical comparison between designs, or shapes, and thereby allow for a more intuitive sorting or blending of the designs to obtain the desired form. Virtual Soldier Research (VSR) is a part of the Santos Human research effort based in Iowa City, partially through the University of Iowa. The intentions of the work at VSR is the development of a human warfighter simulation software that can currently simulate the warfighter to unprecedented levels. Not only does the software account for the dynamic and kinematic effects on the avatar, with a fully customized equipment loadout, but it additionally models multiple bio-metric considerations. As a result, information such as fatigue and hydration requirements is provided as well as the joint torques and discomfort levels experienced. My contribtutions to this project included: Development of technical documentation packages, including a complete reference manual and training materials Software debugging and root cause analysis Modeling of computational physics for the inertial effects on the avatar during dynamic simulations Show less
