I have been creating cardgames and other visual products for most of my life. Recently I have been given the opportunity to design business cards for payment. I have gained experience in setting prices and creating small contracts. So far I have created dozens of business cards and logos for my clients. Having a great time learning how a multi-million dollar project fell into a heap because they couldn't find a good project controller - how do you rebuild a management system which hasn't been followed in 8 months? Sam's underpaid sweat & tears.Beca has given me a multitude of valuable learning experiences - many by accident. Being the 'clever lad who likes to fix things' really pays off in such a diverse and collaborative company. As part of my honours year I worked with a group of 2 other students for Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah at the Alfred Hospital. Together we aimed to create a pre-implementation plan for an AI-enabled invasive mold disease diagnostic-aid and triage system (fungalAi). During this immense project our team wrote 3 literature reviews, conducted two streams of original research (I lead the sociotechnical analysis of the implementation context), wrote 4 preliminary papers and generated a thesis and infographic as tools for fungalAi’s future implementation.

As part of university-sponsored internship, I acted as a consultant for a startup business-cluster revolving around mental health practitioners founded by Natalie Wild. I analysed the current business model and problems facing the startup, creating solution maps, reports and pitched ideas for business improvement. Currently half of the business changes proposed have been implemented, with great success. As part of my university degree I worked on a project for the university’s Associate Dean of Graduate Research Professor Peter Betts, with two other students. The main aim was the find a cause for the higher than desired unemployment rate for graduated PhDs. We evaluated the current PhD program, designed a survey which was completed by the majority of the PhD cohort, and interviewed some key individuals on PhD culture and study ambitions. The results (which I am not allowed to describe here) aided Professor Betts greatly in future improvements to the program.

As part of my university degree I was given the opportunity to create my own startup with two other colleagues. ActGen’s purpose was to cut through the outdated and blunted Australian education system by providing in-person lessons on sometimes controversial topics such as speakership, colonial history, ethics, game theory and mental health. Each lesson was filled with original activities and content, some students even claimed ActGen was the best program they had done that year. Unfortunately, the project was put on hold indefinitely due to an increasingly high university demand.
