Sam's work as Renewable Technology Officer covered a number of aspects of our work with Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pumps installed in/planned for tenanted properties. Sam was the principal contact with tenants before, during and after installations, working closely with surveyors and contractors to ensure equipment was sited to be both technically acceptable and acceptable to the tenant. He also carried out pre-installation and post-installation familiarisation and support visits with tenants, helping them to understand the new technology and get the most efficient use from it once installed and ensuring any problems or faults with new installations were dealt with appropriately. Sam also carried out extensive monitoring of existing installations and helped tenants understand their heating costs, often being asked to act as an advocate for a tenant, when dealing with energy supply companies. During his time with the Asset Management team, Sam also managed the procurement process for installation of Air and Ground Source Heat Pumps, including liaising with the Procurement Adviser, compiling an Invitation to Tender, shortlisting Contractors from the ITT responses with me and administering the Tender exercise. Sam dealt with all contractor queries and requests for clarification during the process, appropriately referring any more complex issues to me. Sam proved himself to be a capable, well-motivated employee, with good people skills. He is able to work on his own initiative, with a good sense of when it becomes appropriate to requesting further clarification or advice from others.

Sam was employed as a Graduate Trainee; he worked both independently and alongside other graduates undertaking a range of projects either service-based or council-wide. Sam's projects were predominantly, but not exclusively, housing, planning and environment based, and included a housing value for money strategy and the assessment of allotment sites. Following his success in this placement Sam has secured positions which have allowed him to develop his knowledge and skills further within key local authority teams. Sam undertook mentoring of Graduate Trainees from the 2010 & 2011 schemes and assisted in the production of a portfolio for future graduates to help them settle into their roles and give an understanding of the organisation. He is professional in his approach and has excellent communication skills, dealing with people and officers at all levels.
