A large portion of my design work was creating PCBs that were able to control and power attached silicon photonics chips designed by AP. It was important to ensure that the chips could be properly attached to the PCB and had correct and feasible wire bonding connections. In addition, assuring proper power sequencing and noise free power supply design was critical to proper PIC (photonic integrated circuit) operation. Show less

Half way through the internship we received a run of boards and I worked with the ATE team to load firmware onto each device. I also isolated faulty boards, documented their issues, and fixed them if possible. At the end of the internship I worked with the PCB people to make a small board for the circuit I had been designing and populated it by hand with SMD soldering. In my final days I conducted analysis on the circuit to ensure it met noise, amplification, and power thresholds. Show less
