Hired to return to Buck's Rock Camp as the head of ceramics for the 2023 season. I was a ceramics instructor in 2022 and a ceramics counselor-in-training in 2019. My responsibilities for this 9-week seasonal job include: -Director of ceramics program -Overseeing all studio operations (studio open 7 days per week for the entire summer) -Supervising staff of ceramic professionals -Mentorship and supervision of up to three ceramics counselors-in-training -Inventorying and ordering of materials and tools -Working with manufacturers to order repair parts for wheels and kilns -Leading advances in safe storage of hazardous raw materials by recontaining all hazardous raw materials in air-tight and adequately-labelled containers -Constructing a raku kiln and managing electric, gas, and raku kiln firings -Beginner-advanced art instruction and mentorship for campers aged 10-17 -Enforcing studio safety -Clay reclaim -Glaze mixing -Allowing bunk counselors time off during evening hours by watching over bunks, guiding campers, and maintaining a healthy and safe bunk environment I also spent 10 days working "Precamp" in 2023. Responsibilities included painting surfaces, cleaning bunks and mattresses, moving items from winter storage, and hauling outdoor furniture around camp ahead of staff arrival. In addition to these responsibilities, I took on a voluntary position as a COVID containment assist during the summer of 2022, helping test all campers and escorting any COVID positive persons to quarantine areas. As a Ceramics Studio Monitor, my responsibilities are various and plentiful, completing tasks per the needs of the ceramics department head and the head studio technician. These tasks include mixing glazes, slips, and clays; loading, unloading and firing wood, gas, and electric kilns; handling raw materials, making bowls for the annual "Empty Bowls" charity fundraiser, answering questions of/assisting studio users, and organizing and cleaning.
