I worked as part of a bioengineering team based at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center that is using artificial intelligence and machine vision to design a system to monitor patient biometric data. My focus was using Python to create a hospital bed alarm which recognizes patients who are at risk of falling. This has involved using object detection primarily in TensorFlow. I collected data and used it to analyze EVRAZ’s welding process. This primarily involved Python, ImageJ, and Excel. I helped create a methodology for documentation of weld defects. I also worked with setting up a system to collect strain gauge data using specialized software and hardware. I collected data and used it to analyze EVRAZ’s welding process. I participated in a nationwide project researching soil microbes to discover new antibiotics. This was done by screening soil samples against genetic cousins of harmful bacteria to test for antibiotic activity. I also assisted in leading a class that taught the procedure and reasoning surrounding this project. Throughout my time working around the Tiny Earth Initiative I applied many standard lab techniques including: sterile practice, gram staining, making agar plates, bacteria plating, and hazardous material management.
