Bio
Kathie Nycklemoe
I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with Sam on several occasions. Sam is a team player, thoughtful, forward thinking, and generous to work with. I have witnessed his dedication to excellence in what is asked of him. Sam's creativity and ability to dream "outside the box" is evident in many ways, and yet his attention to detail is equally present.
Kiely Todd Roska
Sam has a rare balance of pastoral and administrative gifts. Like the Benedictines he admires, Sam listens well, and balances work and prayer, reflection and action. He navigates organizational change and challenge with skill and grace—paying attention to the mission, the tasks at hand, and the dignity of each person. As staffing needs shifted on our team, he advocated for clarity of roles and fair compensation for those assigned new responsibilities. When health issues prevented Sisters from contributing to the mission in the same way, Sam communicated directly and compassionately, holding space for ambiguity until a resolution could be found. Sam is adept at helping people identify, deepen, and utilize their gifts. He does this as a spiritual director, supervisor, and as a colleague. Working with Sam has contributed immensely to my own professional development in writing, facilitation and discernment about my gifts. His encouragement and mentoring enabled me to grow and thrive at the Benedictine Center. I have also seen Sam guide many others into concrete reflection about the heart of their work and into opportunities to share their gifts. Sam sees the best in others and supports them in living into their best selves. He’s the kind of colleague and teammate that any organization would be lucky to have working with them.

Through retreats, workshops, and one-on-one listening, I accompany others toward deeper relationships with God, self, others, and the wider world. Much like a fly-fishing guide might help you navigate a trout stream, I consider it my privilege to help others wade deeper into the waters of their interior lives. My work with various organizations in this area involves training and supervising others who are learning effective listening skills.
