My day to day roles involved the management, implementation and publicity drives of the set-out goals of the society, such as events, mentorship talks, and industrial visits. I also chaired the IT committee of the Society which plans various technical training workshops such as MATLAB, IoT for the students and the society members. Over my time at Safaricom I managed to get awarded for my outstanding achievement and contribution to the Safaricom's Technology Academy. I also took part in the company's first internal hackathon as a Scrum Master where my team got 2nd place. My day to day office roles within the company included : Taking part in the Change Advisory Board, that met to discuss and approve high risk and wide impact changes across the Safaricom's technology infrastructure. Performing post-review analysis of undertaken changes in the technology division and making sure they met the set out change objectives. Scheduling and planning of changes or upgrades across the technology infrastructure ensuring no conflicts and minimal risk of incidents. Outside office hours I also toured other departments and divisions to gather knowledge and extra skills that weren't particularly involved with my current role. I also volunteered for the Women in Technology initiative which involved engaging with high school girls through school trips within company premises, encouraging them to take up STEM courses and also demystifying the world of technology to them. Over my time at Makerspace, I mainly came up with mechanical designs rather than electronics ones as I came to realize so did my superiors, I was very good with the CAD softwares they were utilizing. I enjoyed the work of building designs from scratch and 3d printing them for prototyping. It was a really nice experience that really impacted me with a lot of hands on skills from wiring, etching and molding of parts. It never felt like work because I really enjoyed my time doing something that I love. Show less
