Responsible for running paintball games of up to 30 customers at a time, in a safe and professional manner. Regularly have to make decisions in high-pressure, fast-moving situations, where multiple parties must be satisfied. I ensure all customers enjoy their experience, without jeopardising health and safety or company procedures. This role has enabled me to become a more confident public speaker, as I can now provide safety talks to large groups of people, which have to be clear and informative. As well as this, I have met thousands of customers who are all unique, which has developed my ability to communicate important information to anyone regardless of the circumstance. Whether that be customers who don't speak much English, or those who are not so cooperative.

    • 8 week Summer placement at EcoPark South
      • Aug 2021 - Sep 2021

Completed an 8-week summer internship with Taylor Woodrow, working as a site engineer on one of the biggest civil engineering projects in London – the modernisation of Edmonton EcoPark. I was given the task of setting out baseplates for columns, crane mats and various other important locations that allowed subcontractors to complete their work with ease. I would also supervise subcontractors to ensure they were working safely, and at times oversee quality control tests such as slump tests. I was responsible for surveying the site using a total station, then applying the results using CAD to identify suitable locations for both an 850 and 750tonne mobile crane. I then suggested the locations to the management team in various meetings, and it was decided that they were suitable, so they were used. The cranes went on to successfully lift a 155tonne truss spanning 74metres, 20metres into the air. This was a huge achievement and a really interesting task for me to be a part of.

Worked remotely within the Civil's team on various projects across London, focusing on SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) and Highway Design. Tasked with locating a suitable place for an attenuation tank, and calculating the required volume based on the impermeable area of the site. Then worked on the drainage plan of run-off water and the SVP's (Soil Vent Pipe's), deciding the gradient of pipes with reference to minimum velocity requirements and their resistance coefficients. Along with this, I designed them to meet one in one hundred plus climate change conditions to ensure the building was future-proofed. I was then assigned to amending highway cross-sections, altering locations of footway's and changing the materials used subsurface of the bitmac layer, whether it be OGCR (Open Graded Crushed Rock) or AC10 (Asphalt Concrete 10mm). I also learnt about the difference between cambered and cross-filled highway sections and when each one is used. I then applied what I learnt to some projects and discussed it with the Civil's director who talked me through the various options of layers when designing a highway. In between working on the numerous projects that I was assigned to, I arranged to have meetings with as many colleagues as possible to gain a better understanding of the profession, and to ask if they had any general advice for me. Across the two weeks, I spent a total of approximately 11 hours in one on one calls with 10 different professionals who were all Civil or Structural Engineers. They were all at different stages of their careers, from Graduates to Directors and so they all had different advice which was all really useful and interesting to hear. My penultimate day consisted of taking part in a near 3-hour DTM (Design Team Meeting) where I spoke with specialists in several aspects of the Design&Build process, from M&E Engineers to the Architect working on the project.

Visited Nick Grimshaw Architects, the Royal College of Physicians and Westminster Universities Labs. Worked in teams with people from across the world on an interesting project based in Dubai, where we had to to design sustainable brise-soleil for the spectators of sporting events. We then had to present our ideas, answer questions and take feedback from some of Nick Grimshaws most experienced designers. Embarked on work experience at CBRE Group in their St Pauls office in Central London. I worked within the commercial fit out’s team (CFO), who taught me how to proficiently use Excel and built on my existing knowledge of AutoCAD. I was also present at a project progress meeting near Fenchurch Street station, which I had completed some of the cost calculations for. I shadowed an associate director which led to me sitting in on various meetings with clients from India. Embarked on work experience at CBRE Group in their St Pauls office in Central London. Undertook work experience at Mulalley&Co for four weeks across two years. I attended an on-site client progress meeting, shadowed various professionals and learnt how to use AutoCAD. This resulted in my work being used to display a new road layout at a client progress meeting. This work experience allowed me to network with professionals who shared invaluable knowledge and advice based on their careers.
