Sameer is a very detailed oriented person and brought great results for the company. He was part of the legal team and his approach to any proposal we brought was "Let's see how we can make it happen". He was a great partner to us and brought nuanced insights to make the overall outcome better. Extremely friendly and approachable, he always felt like part of our team.

I joined HSBC as Vice President – Legal and was heading Retail Banking Legal. I got promoted to Senior Vice President – Legal by January 2008. In mid 2009 having, set policies and the team which was capable, I decided to get on to the credit control unit which had requirement for litigation specialist to recover substantial NPAs which came about due to economical downturn and having learnt all that there was to learn in Retail, I thought this was fast track to learning to all that there is in Corporate Banking, and truly, this position gave me solid opportunity to put my legal & litigation skills to use and did not disappoint me, under a stupendous line Managers, we as team more or less recovered all that there was to recover and sold what could be sold as portfolio.

I joined ICICI Lombard General Insurance Limited, as Corporate Manager – Legal and grew to be National Manager – Legal (Head Legal), and here I met my two most important influences in my professional life, one was my immediate boss and other the MD of ICICI Lombard at that point in time. One of them honed my skills of always thinking through problems (out of box thinking) and brought about a paradigm shift and other whom I have come to idolize as a person who taught me to remain grounded and humble and to simplifying the problems to find solutions. I have never come across so many talented individuals at one place as ICICI Lombard and I loved soaking and learning from each one of them.

    • Senior Manager, Legal & Recovery

I happened to join at a very critical time in its history when all that legally could go wrong with its recovery machinery went awry and I got once in a life time opportunities with blessings of my seniors and management to use my skill sets to the hilt and come up with workable solutions. I spearheaded and researched, the efforts to get jurisdiction of Co-operative Banks in Debt Recovery Tribunal and succeeded with landmark judgment in Shamrao Vithal Co-op Bank Vs. Star Glass Works (2003]114CompCas378), this was also confirmed by Full bench of Bombay High Court in Re. Narendra Kantilal Shah (AIR2004Bom166). The Supreme Court gave it a twist and overturned it. However, the government did see merit in this and amended Recovery of Debt Due to Banks and Financial Institution Act, 1993 and SARFAESI Act, 2002 to include Multi-state Co-operative Banks in definition of Bank.

I had joined this company after it had just completed a public issue and this was a rich learning ground for handling customer issues, SEBI, stock exchanges, litigation and legal issues besides having opportunity to set up the share transfer system in house (these were times prior to demat).
