From the moment Samara said, "I want to represent you," I knew I was no longer alone. Being a playwright can be a very lonely endeavor, but from day one Samara was not only my biggest champion, but my partner. She's wonderful at negotiating tricky contracts, she is someone who answers the phone, she shows up for her clients- at productions, readings, conferences. She's committed to making lasting relationships with Artistic Directors on behalf of her clients. She's fiercely passionate about the clients she reps and she shows it by pounding the pavement for us. At the National New Playwrights Conference when my play was a part of Showcase, I overheard an Artistic Director tell her, "I love working with you, Samara, because you actually answer the phone. You have no idea how many agents don't respond to queries on behalf of their clients." I was shocked to hear this and so relieved to know that my agent was one of the good ones. Of course, I already knew that. So, yes, she answers the phone. She responds to emails. But more than that, she's committed to getting our plays out there in the world. She champions her writers. On those days when it all feels pointless, she is there to encourage us to keep writing. She is someone that producers, ADs, directors, literary managers love to talk to. She's a true lover of theatre. She's passionate and hardworking. She thinks outside the box. She's a collaborator. Samara Harris is the advocate I always dreamed of having, but wasn't sure existed. I'm grateful every single day for our partnership.
