Sam has been an amazing mentor and a dear friend. I had the pleasure of meeting her when I signed up for the Business of Science Center’s Introduction to Entrepreneurship course. I was immediately impressed with Sam’s extensive knowledge and experience in the commercialization of emerging technologies and was honored when she later invited me to join her team at the center. I worked closely with Sam for several years and gained invaluable experience and exposure in entrepreneurship and innovation at UCLA. I will be forever grateful for Sam’s time and mentorship. Sam has a work ethic like no other. She is always willing to help and gives selflessly of her time. Her open-book personality is refreshing. I’ve never met a more driven, kind-hearted person and I am excited to see what she does next!

It is very rare to meet an instructor that becomes both a mentor and a friend – but Sam has been all three to me. I was very fortunate to have had Sam instruct two of my graduate classes at UCLA, MedTech Innovation and Business of Science, both are easily at the top of my list of most influential classes taken. Sam’s ability to bring in high profile speakers across multiple industries gave her classes unique opportunities found nowhere else, and her willingness to dedicate hours of personal time to individual students is a rare trait. As a mentor, Sam has been invaluable to me with her extensive network and industry knowledge, pushing me to explore opportunities I did not know existed. Sam is someone who wants to see those around her succeed and will always dedicate time and energy to help any way she can. Even as she was moving across the country, I knew I could still count on Sam for support and advice. I have no doubt that Sam will continue to inspire those that have the fortune of meeting her.
