Executive Team and Communication Assistant
-
Jun 2014 - Dec 2014
As Executive Team Assistant I have day-to-day communications with Senior Management; maintaining effective communication and professionalism while communicating with external visitors and associates to provide diary support and travel bookings. I also communicate notices to the 700-strong site; including volunteering, activities, requirements, legislation and HSE and Plant Performance. I create volunteering opportunities, communicating with the Community Involvement Team and external community partners while engaging with and monitoring the progress of 700 employees to follow CSR guidelines and meet targets. To acknowledge service within the company I gather information monthly from various functions for employee recognition and organise quarterly ceremonies. I also provide cover on reception, meeting visitors and providing a friendly and efficient point of call for visitors and staff with great communication skills via telephone and face to face. I have gained new IT skills including working with Prezi which played part in winning the Overall Winner at the National IMechE Awards which I then communicated on Cummins Connect and organised recognition. I compile weekly and monthly reports from all functions to a deadline which are then communicated across site and the company. I have also gaining new skills in Materials and Finance which has allowed me to further understand different functions and working with a global customer base in a practical environment. I have also been required to work efficiently with external partners to arrange recognition and display notices to meet deadlines.

Being in an Au Pair in Spain gave me a fantastic opportunity to fully experience and embrace a culture. The main focus was to take care of the children which was a great responsibility that greatly improved my confidence. My lack of sufficient Catalan skills actually improved my communication abilities as I had to learn to adapt to the new environment and meeting people without the benefit of a fluent conversation. My ability to adjust quickly to a new culture demonstrates my flexibility and confidence as well as encouraging my willingness to travel. Teaching the children English was a major role in my position, this required patience and organisation in order to teach to a standard that would benefit the children to the best of my ability. As well as looking after the children on a daily basis I was also expected to complete household duties which required good time management and organisation around the children.

Volunteering in Kenya for 2 months was an amazing and rewarding experience. Working with a charitable organisation to help improve the lives of many people by rebuild the local area required a very close relationship with the local community while also applying myself to the challenging physical task ahead. As well as gaining experience in adapting to a new culture, my team working skills and my ability to work independently developed greatly. I served customers in a busy environment to the high level of service expected. I adopted a flexible approach while alternating duties such as preparing coffees, till operation, stock taking and cleaning. Throughout this I adhered to strict health and safety guidelines while completing every task to a high standard. During my time at Sainsbury's I broadened my knowledge of the store by offering my service in other departments, including TU Clothing, General Merchandise and Checkouts, demonstrating my flexibility and willingness to learn.
