After relocating to Utah, I immediately set about looking for an insurance brokerage where I could continue my personal growth while driving organizational change. I received offers from all of the large firms and felt that Diversified was the best fit. I directly manage 21 large clients (100+ EE), with annual company revenue exceeding $2.1MM. To my clients, I’m more than an account manager. I am a trusted and integral piece of their executive team, implementing long-term strategies for growth & success. This has helped me realize a 95%+ client retention rate. This level of integration allows me to create highly tailored services and improve the quality of benefits, leveraging my understanding of vendor offerings, limitations, appetites, to meet the intricate details of my client’s needs. I am also the primary point of contact for all client-based projects, working with each department to create cohesive project execution and ensure timelines are met. The scope of these projects include, but are not limited to marketing, claims data, technology, external vendors, coordination care models, TPAs, etc. I have become skilled at making recommendations and decisions with incomplete information, then following through to make sure that the decisions made are the correct decisions. Speaking more broadly, at Diversified, I created and implemented the Why Diversified? Initiative designed to develop account coordinators into an integral part of the team by better understanding their role and the value they bring to the company. I was key in establishing a corporate culture of building and promoting from within through increased training and mentoring engagement with employees. To meet this objective, I spearheaded creating an entire account coordinator training program to increase employee competency and consistency, while also developing future account managers. My program replaced a disorganized, ad-hoc training practice.

My opportunity came at BHC Insurance where I stared as an Account Coordinator and ended as the Large Group Account Manager. These nine years were so pivotal to my growth and development in the insurance industry. This is where I got my feet wet. This is where I learned the business. Over time, my primary goal became to develop longstanding and profitable client relationships while providing innovative insurance coverage solutions. Internally, I played a key role in dramatically upgrading BHC’s antiquated business processes and procedures, including adopting new technology, improving partner relationships, thus successfully bringing a 100+ year old company into the 21st Century. I also actively led the integration of a newly acquired block of business, including absorbing new employees, and acclimating them to their new roles within the company. I continued to increase my passion for teaching and training. I led by example and successfully trained six new account managers, each managing a book of business of roughly 100 clients. When I left BHC, I was successfully managing nearly 100 large group (50+ EE) clients, with annual company revenue exceeding $3MM. I had achieved a 90%+ retention rate by building longstanding relationships of trust. I had not only reached my goal – I had thrived! They say all good things must come to an end. A new adventure awaited my family as we decided to relocate to Utah.

At the time I joined this team, I didn’t really have plans. I was just working and doing the best that I could. At CV’s I supervised a staff of 20-25 individuals. I was entrusted with overseeing the production and inventory of various departments and was responsible for beginning and end-of-day balance sheets. I also got my first taste of training new hires, while providing backup to all departments when they were shorthanded. When I graduated, I was ready to take these rudimentary skills and apply them to something bigger.
